July: We held our Fourth Fundraiser Day of Giving on July 21, 2012, at the home of Paul and DeeDee Shippen in San Leandro, CA. Our board members prepared a Thai buffet, and the local Thai temple provided Thai dancers and music to entertain our guests. Approximately 70 people attended. We were able to raise over $4000 for the disadvantaged children in Thailand.
March: FORDEC Thailand feeds hundreds of poor hungry children each day, but until recently they had only temporary cooking facilities.Their old kitchen lacked many essentials: not enough water for cooking, not enough storage room for uncooked food, not enough counter space for food preparation, no hood over the stove to get rid of the smoke and the floor didn’t drain properly leaving the floor constantly slippery and wet. They estimated they needed $20,000 to bring the kitchen up to modern standards. We were able to raise about $2500 to help reach their goal, largely from generous donations from Dan and Kim Ploy of Fresno, John and Ida Lee of Redlands, and a garage sale. The kitchen was successfully rebuilt and opened soon after.
On September. 3, we held a garage sale at the home of Wandee Smid. We sold many items donated by FORDEC friends. At the end of the day, all unsold items were donated to FESCO ( Family Emergency Shelter Coalition) Organization for their October 3rd Annual Bargain Sale Fundraiser. All the funds we raised are donated to the children in Thailand.
We held our Third Annual Fundraiser Day of Giving on Sept. 25th at the Aroma Restaurant in Alameda California. The 70 guests that attended enjoyed a luncheon barbecue prepared by the Aroma Restaurant a local band, the Mighty Neptunes provided the entertainment. We had previously sold tickets for several prizes and, at the conclusion of the luncheon, we held the drawing. The grand prize was a trip for two to Thailand with 3 days and 2 nights at the 5 Star Grand Millennium Hotel. Other prizes included several spa packages, a meal at Toomie’s Thai restaurant in Alameda, 20 units of Botox and dinner for two at the Fairmont Hotel’s Famous Tonga Room & Hurricane Bar.
