How We Got Started
Dr. Amporn Wathanavongs, who was himself an orphan, founded FORDEC Thailand in 1998 to help orphans and disadvantaged children.
His aim was and still is to provide each child two meals a day, basic education, personal hygiene training, and a clean, safe place to play.
In 2008, a small group of concerned Thais and Americans formed the non-profit FORDECUSA Foundation to help the Thai organization.
FORDEC works with local organizations and with the Thai government to improve the living conditions of children throughout Thailand. We take no salaries and contribute with our own funds and time to help secure donations for the children.
We also seek donations from individuals and businesses from around the world. We run dinners, garage sales, and other events to raise funds. FORDEC also donates bicycles to rural children who often have to walk long distances to reach school.
Members of the foundation also guide parents, many of whom have come from rural areas to Bangkok seeking work and fall prey to con artists and drug dealers.
Over the past years, we have raised more than $30,000 for FORDEC Thailand. All of us who with FORDECUSA do so as volunteers.
We welcome volunteers who wish to help us. If you would like more information or would like to find out about volunteering or donating, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
